Hind Pretty Speedy Support Bra

Stats: 85% polyester, 15% Lycra®/ XS-2XL/ UPF 40-50

Colors: Black

Cost: $20.00

Review:

This bra has the wicking material that is so necessary in a good sports bra. The racer back is mesh but surprisingly, you can’t feel the material (unlike some mesh) when it’s on.  It is lightweight yet supportive; doesn’t feel too tight when going on but still fits well.

Fits true to size but may be a little short under the chest as the bra itself is not very long in the torso.

Pro’s:

  • Very comfortable
  • Wicks moisture
  • Don’t even know it’s on

Con’s:

  • The neck is a little bit high, might be more comfortable if it were lower (but may not be as supportive then)

Body Glide

Stats: Anti-chafing stick 5″x1.5″x6.5″

Cost: $14.99 for 2.5 oz. ($9.99 for 1.3 oz.)

Review:

You may not need this product on a routine workout, but I can assure you that it will save your life (at least your skin) during the long ones.  I used this on a recent 20 mile walk and it was fantastic although I still managed to get blisters on my feet at the end, which is why I didn’t give it a perfect score.

Body glide goes on just like a deodorant and is used in any place where you might chafe: legs, feet, arms, etc.  It is odorless and easy to use and it protects your skin where you may need it the most.

Pro’s:

  • Easy to use
  • Scent-free
  • It is not sticky
  • Can be used for any body part

Con’s:

  • Has to be reapplied after extended use

YOU: The Owner’s Manual

Stats:  415 pgs/copyright 2005

Authors: Michael Roizen, MD and Mehmet Oz, MD

Cost:  $17.79

Review:

This book definitely has a different format than other health related manuals.  It’s almost “ketchy” in its approach.  I actually like that - it’s hip and clever without being obnoxious.  There are original drawings used as illustrations and my favorite: factoids and the myth vs. fact.  These little nuggets are all throughout the book and contain such goodies as: “Myth or Fact: you can catch a cold by being cold or wet” (Myth) or “Thirty minutes of exercise reduces eye pressure by 20 percent.”

These little tidbits aside, the book is written in such a way that it is easy to read and easy to understand.  There are twelve chapters and you can read one or all of them, they are independent of each other.  They cover topics from your digestive system to your sexual organs.  While the information may not be terribly deep and life-changing, it is interesting, practical and definitely worth reading.

Pro’s:

  • Useful information
  • Easy to read and understandable
  • Creative illustrations
Con’s:
  • Can’t really think of any (that’s a good thing, right?)

Trader Joe’s Chile Lime Chicken Burgers

Stats: Cal 110/Fat 3g/Fiber 1g/Carbs 4g/Protein 15 g/Sugars 0g/Serving size 1 pattie

Cost: $2.99

Review:

These burgers are amazing!  The first time I ate one I didn’t look at the nutritional facts first (I know - cardinal sin) and was shocked to find out afterwards how low-fat they are.  They taste great!

They come frozen in packs of four and need to be grilled or broiled, NOT microwaved.  This minor inconvenience aside, they are definitely worth the preparation time and the cost is right too!

Pro’s:

  • Low-fat, healthy
  • Low cost
  • decent size portion (although not terribly thick like a true burger would be)
Con’s:
  • Non-microwaveable

SoBe Life Water

Stats: Cal 40/Fat 0g/Carbs 10g/Sugars 10g/Protein 0g

Flavors: Pomegranate Cherry, Blackberry Grape, Orange Tangerine, Strawberry Kiwi, Passionfruit Citrus,

Cost: $1.39 for 20 oz.

Review:

I really don’t care for this water.  And I am willing to try any water once.  In fact, I consider myself quite the connoisseur of water.  That is why I was so disappointed with this one; I blame it on my high expectations.

The taste is bitter and fairly strong.  It’s one of those drinks where you can almost see the artificial sweetener - you can definitely taste it!

Pro’s:

  • No fat
  • Colorful
  • Nice bottle
Con’s:
  • Bad taste
  • Bad taste
  • Bad taste
